Occupation: FBI agent
Location: Unknown
First Appearance: Chapter 287 - The Invisible Fear
Akai Shuuichi, a bad-ass FBI agent, was shot in the head and presumed deceased since chapter 609. Yes, DC's fan all over the world were totally shocked with this news. Did he really die, that super cool guy? Or was it just a fake death successfully drawn by the talented hands of Goushou Aoyama? We don't really know...
Ok, let's dig this thing up. First thing first, during the night before the B.O member Kir (or should I say the CIA agent Hidemi Hondou) was released, there was a long night-talk, wasn't it? The contents of the talk have been shown by Goushou not long after that. But what if there were something in that night, something that only Akai, Conan, Kir and Goushou knows and haven't tell us yet? After the conversation about the big bad release plan, those four surely thought about what would happen after Kir was sent back to the B.O. With such intelligent brains, they probably anticipated the possibility that Kir will have to do something to gain the B.O's trust, and that something is likely to be the assassination of Akai! Yes! If they had anticipated that, then the death of Akai at Raiha falls is possibly A FAKE ONE and had been planned beforehand.
Yeah, that's one possiblity. But if it's the case then, how the hell did Akai survive? We all see the gun shot, no the TWO gun shots that were driven into Akai's body (one of them was a headshot). Also there was blood, splattered, everywhere. Finally to conclude everything a bomb blew up Shuu's big bad black Chevrolet. We all saw those things, they happened right in front of our eyes. There's no way Akai could escape from that case, unless he's some kind of superhero...
The thing is, there are sooo many discussions around Shuu's death, but it seems that Goushou gave us too few evidences and hence no perfect conclusion could be drawn. Firstly, the "Raiha mountain pass" somehow reminds Holmes' fans about "Reihenbach falls" where Holmes fakes his death. Yes, as a fan of Holmes, Goushou probably did let Akai fake his death there. Shuu somehow had managed to jump off the safe fence and down to the cliff (we couldn't see what's under the cliff though, but I hope it's water) and escaped Gin's grasp, leaving a burning body of someone.

Could it be...Akai faked his death?
So, the problem is. How did he manage to trick Gin (and Vodka) and whose body were there? There are theories which think that the bullets Kir shot were probably blank. We know that blank bullets cause no real harm at far distance, but when shot at close range, they are still dangerous. So there might be something inside Akai's knitted hat that prevented the bullet from damaging him (yeah, that's explains why he always wears that hat). The blood is probably fake, too. As an FBI agent Shuu will have no problem acquiring those typical movie equipment things. The bomb, although the number 3 was shown, it doesn't mean that the bomb was set to blown up after 3 seconds. It just means that Goushou showed us the bomb when the number 3 came up and the real detonate time was never known. During that time Shuu probably had done some smart moves and escaped.
And the body? Whose was it? Most likely it was Kusuda Rikumichi, the fake patient who suicided not long ago. This explains the fingerprints found on Conan's phone (Kusuda touched his phone, didn't he?). So that means during the time of the detonation, while Gin was preparing to high-tail, Akai placed Kusuda's body in his place and escaped secretly.
That's just a theory and there are no evidence for it, until chapter 677. A man looked like Shuu (with a large burnt mark on the right of his head) appeared and surely did confuse Jodie and we readers. And if Goushou didn't show this guy shot the robber by his RIGHT HAND, we could've all believed that Akai had returned. Now that we know that he's not Akai, then who is he? Most likely it's Vermouth in disguise. The B.O, being a sceptic organization, sent Vermouth out to investigate whether Akai had really died. Well, this explains the gun shot right? We all know Vermouth owes Shinichi her life so it's normal to see her save our great detective. Too bad Jodie doesn't have such special feelings like Ran with Shinichi so she couldn't realize that he's a fake...
Akai's Shuuichi's real fate has remained as one of the biggest question in DC up until now. True, it is cruel to let such a man die at this early, but if Goushou really intended to carve something special about Akai in readers' mind, it's better to leave him deceased. The answer? You'll have to wait until the end of DC, I'm afraid.
